The Swindon Striders were established in 1995 by 12 founding members who wanted to promote the enjoyment of running, for people of all abilities, in a friendly and social environment. The club is associated to the South East of England Athletic Association (SEAA) and the Wiltshire Athletic Association (WAA). There
are
official club nights twice a week:
Monday:
Oasis Sports Centre - map
7:15pm meet for 7:30 run
Friday: Link Sports Centre - map 7:15pm meet for 7:30 run Routes run are many and vaired, normally a shorter run of approximately four miles and a longer run of 7 to 8 miles. There is always someone available to run with newcomers! Most runners meet in the bar afterwards for a social drink and a chat. The club takes part in a number of team events; the Highworth Half-Marathon in January, the Ridgeway Relay Race in the summer, Cross Country in the autumn/winter and the Southern and National Cross Country Championships (just for fun). A club trip is arranged each year; as a social and sporting weekend away. Through our affiliations we are presently entitled to two London Marathon places, this is given (via a draw) to one of the club members rejected in the entry ballot. (Certain rules apply, see the constitution for details) Membership is £17 per annum; but obviously you are welcome to come along initially and try us out! The club is managed by a committee of six; the Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Club Captain, and men's and ladies representatives.
