Constitution
1. Title
The
name of the club is Swindon Striders
2. Headquarters
The
headquarters of the club is the home address of the club secretary.
3. Objective
The objective of the club is the promotion
of Amateur Athletics in a friendly environment for all abilities
4. Management
The management of the club is vested in
a committee consisting of a Chairperson, Honorary Treasurer/Publicity
Representative, Honorary Secretary, Captain, and two committee members, all to be
elected annually.
Committee meetings will be held quarterly throughout
the year that three must attend to make a quorum. The Committee has
power to fill any vacancy that may arise.
5. Membership
Membership of the club is confined to
Amateurs; as defined by the U.K. Athletic rulebook.
A candidate for membership must apply on the form
provided for the purpose, and must be proposed by one member, seconded
by another member, and elected by ballot at the next ensuing committee
meeting.
There are two types of members full and associate as defined below:

1. Full member: - a member who is participating in the
running activities of the club, these members will have a vote on
constitutional issues and can stand for election as an
officer.
2. Associate Member: - a member who has been
associated and supports the club that can no longer actively running, these
members will not have a vote on constitutional issues or stand for election
as an officer.
6. Resignations
A member intending to withdraw from the club
shall give notice in writing to the Honorary Secretary, and their
membership terminated on the date of that notice unless they are
financially indebted to the club, in which case the commitee may
withhold acceptance of their resignation until they have discharged
their liability.
A member not having tendered their resignation prior
to the 1st December shall be liable for the ensuing years
subscriptions.
7. Subscriptions
The Annual Subscription of the Club is £12.00 for 1st claim members and
£6.00 for 2nd claim members' payable on the 1st of December in each
year.
A 2nd claim member must prove they are a 1st claim member for
another affiliated running club to UK Athletics or member of Swindon
Triathlon Club
(a) The committee shall have the power to expel any
member whose subscription is six months in arrears provided one month's
notice in writing shall have been sent to such a member by registered
or recorded delivery, addressed to his/her last known address,
informing him/her of the proposed action of the commitee.
(b) The name and address of any person so expelled
from the club in the Southern District shall be sent to the Honorary
Secretary of the South of England AA who shall enter his/her name in a
book (to be called "The Suspension Book") to be kept for that purpose.
Every person whose name has been entered in this book shall be
suspended from competing at any meeting held under Rules until the
liability causing his/her expulsion, which shall not exceed one years
subscription, shall have been discharged. No member whose subscription
is in arrears is eligible to take part in any competition promoted by
the club.
8. Annual General Meeting
An Annual General Meeting shall be held
during the month of November in every year to receive the committee's
report and financial statement, elect Officers and Committee members
and deal with any other matters specified on the agenda. The Honorary
Secretary must give members 21 days notice of the meeting, and notice
of any business which it is desired be placed on the agenda must be
given in writing to the Honorary Secretary at least 14 days prior to
the meeting.
9. Special General Meeting
The Honorary Secretary must call a Special
General Meeting within 14 days of the receipt by them of a requisition
in writing signed by at least ten members of the club, stating the
business to be brought before such a meeting.
10. Alteration of Rules
No alterations or additions will be
made to the Rules, except by Annual General Meeting or a Special
General Meeting called for that purpose. Notice of any proposed
amendment must be given as provided in rules 9 and 10.
11. Notice of Meeting
The Honorary Secretary shall give every
member at least 7 days notice of the time and place of any General
Meeting along with the business to be dealt with
Any other business shall be dealt with at any such
meeting.
12. London Marathon Club
Entries
A member wishing to be entered into the club
draw for a London Marathon Entry must:-
(a) Be a fully paid up member at the time of the draw.
(b) Have been a member prior to the date of the previous years London
Marathon date.
(c) Not had a club entry for the previous years London Marathon.
(d) First claim members have preference for the
available places.
